Underground Storage Tank Repair Process:

Once the tank top is exposed through excavation and the liquid product is drained out of the tank, our field crews will carry out a series of procedures to examine, fix, and coat your subterranean storage tank. See steps below.

1. Purging Vapor From Tank

The compressed air is utilized in significant quantities and directed through an eductor purging mechanism to create a safe atmosphere within the storage tank, enabling the crew to enter.

2. Accessing Tank Opening

In instances where the storage tank lacks a pre-installed manway, FBG specialists will perform a cutout procedure to ensure safe and compliant interior access to the tank, in accordance with OSHA's Confined Space Standards.

3. De-Sludging Tank

The elimination of all sludge and liquids from your storage tank is carried out, utilizing DOT-approved barrels to ensure the secure and proper disposal of waste materials.

4. Tank Abrasive Blasting

To enable inspection, repair, and lining of the tank, as well as to establish a 3 to 5 mil profile, an abrasive blast is performed on the surface of the tank.

5. Tank Inspection

Following the abrasive blast, the interior tank shell undergoes an inspection, adhering to national standards such as API 1631 and NLPA 631, to detect any vulnerable, leaking, or permeated regions. A detailed report is furnished, outlining the necessary steps required to restore the tank to its optimum service level.

6. Tank Repair

Once authorized by you, any weakened, leaking, or permeated areas detected during the tank inspection that fall within acceptable repair criteria are mended utilizing accepted industry practices for storage tank repair.

7. Tank Coating

The entire interior of the tank is coated with the appropriate Poly Lining System material using a spray application, intended to prevent future corrosion and minimize sludge accumulation.

8. Tank Lining Testing & Quality Control

To ensure uniform thickness, material hardness, and complete coverage, examination and testing are carried out on your newly applied interior tank lining, utilizing suitable methods.

9. Sealing Tank Access Opening

Upon completion of the storage tank's interior work, the access opening is sealed using a welded retrofit manway, with a removable cover that is secured by bolts.
